Is the free plan really free, or does the school buy it?
The free plan does not come through your school. You sign up yourself, and your school does not need to buy or commit to anything. The free plan is not a time-limited trial that ends at a paywall. The paid plan and the institution license have more features, and those are paid for by the teacher or the institution.
Who owns the materials made in Bruukki?
You do. No copyright is transferred to Bruukki, in whole or in part. Under the Terms of Service you own the materials you make, and Bruukki only receives a limited license needed to provide the service: to store your material, back it up, and show it to the people you share it with.
